Who needs an excuse, mid-winter, to escape or elope somewhere with a loved one? St Valentines Day is always a great reason to book a little interim getaway to break up the winter boredom and rekindle a little romance. A trip for two in Paris, the city of lights and love, is always a winner as is an excursion to the beautiful backdrops of the Scottish Highlands with, perhaps, a detour to Gretna Green to seal the love. This week at NewUrban, we present you with our quick-look capsule guide to classic romantic getaways, should someone special whisk you away at...

NewUrban Hats have produced a series of short films highlighting the wide range of creativity that is thriving in Britain today.
From fashion to music to art, the UK is a hotbed for creative talent and we have identified a number of Brits whose work we are thrilled to showcase.
In this film, we introduce Helen Davies the fashion designer behind organic womenswear label ‘EKO’, based in Cornwall.
We have worked with EKO since 2010, where we developed a range of hats to accompany their Autumn/Winter collection that included the NewUrban All Saints Wool Felt Hat.

EKO clothing reflects the laid-back beauty that Cornwall...

Top Hats - traditional, eccentric, quirky, cool?
This week we take a quick look at the timeline of the Top Hat.

The Top Hat, also known as a high hat or a chimney pot, was particularly fashionable in the latter part of the 18th to the middle of the 20th century. Worn by the upper classes of that era, it became a target for satirists and social critics. It was used as a symbol of capitalism in cartoons in socialist and communist media, long after the headgear had been abandoned by those satirized.

The Top Hat is also a symbol for quirky and eccentric characters...

This week NewUrban takes a look at pictures from the world's coolest streets. Lets see what the fashion forward folk are wearing on their heads this spring....

The Netted Beanie

Stephen Jones designed this now sold-out hat for Jil Sander's Spring/Summer 2012 collection. It's remarkable that a knitted beanie would be the popular choice for the coming summer months, but since headwear lover and all round fashion queen, Anna Dello Russo was spotted at the recent international catwalk shows, there has been a rush to get one's hands on this season's cult headwear item.
How about fashioning your own? The blogosphere is full of disgruntled fashionistas who...

A brief timeline of how iconic characters of the screen & stage and the inspirers of style wear a statement hat.
Let’s hear it for the headwear heroes...
The Bowler Hat
Originally, this style was devised in 1849 by the hat makers Thomas and William Bowler, who were commissioned to design a hat to protect Gamekeepers’ heads from low-hanging branches while on horseback.
In the early 1970s, the Bowler Hat was featured in two iconic films of that era.

In 1971, a gang of youths wore a uniform of white boiler suits, laced-up army boots topped off with a classic black Bowler to terrorise suburbia in Stanley Kubrick’s cult movie...

Last week, NewUrban headed down to The Foundation Bar in Covent Garden to meet ‘Five Guys With A ‘Mo'.
November is the month of Movember, whereby guys grow moustaches to raise the profile for male cancers and raise money for their chosen cancer charities. At the very end of the month, when the delectable facial hair is at its peak, the Movember tradition is to have a big old party to show off the moustaches before shaving them off on the 1st December.
We decided it would be fun to have a mid-month look at how a handful of likely...

Now that a bevy of cool street bloggers or Fash-Pappers, as we like to call them here at NewUrban, document the comings and goings of the guests at these important fashion calendar events.
Fashion editors and stylists have had to step-up their game in recent years if they are hoping to get a 'papping' from top bloggers, Scott Schuman, Yvan Rodic or London’s very own J Streetstyle . And gone is the old ‘Black is the new black’ and this season’s 'It...
